Before voting, if you haven’t read one or two of these works, you should do so in order to better understand the heroes of today and the monsters who pose as heroes.
These seven novels should be read before casting your ballot;
My Watch
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo describes his life growing up, fighting in the civil war, rising to the position of Head of State, and ultimately becoming President of Nigeria in this three-volume autobiography.
He tells us everything we need to know about the Ota farmer. If you haven’t read these three books, you don’t know Olusegun Obasanjo.
Against the Run of Play
In his book Against the Run of Play, Olusegun Adeniyi describes how the Nigerian government’s incumbent was overthrown. The book, which was released in 2017, takes the reader into the Nigerian political arena and provides a first-hand account of everything you didn’t know about the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Because the Nigerian political landscape is filled with intrigue, this political memoir and its viewpoint allow the reader to make judgments about the protagonists and antagonists of the story.
The Stolen Mandate
The Stolen Mandate depicts a contemporary Nigerian socio-political situation where poor leadership, abuse of power and neglect towards the plight of the masses reign supreme. And with the acclaimed “political class” having done little to retain the people’s trust, the call for a revolution became inevitable.
In her book “Fighting Corruption Is Dangerous” published in 2018, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala addressed the question of what it’s like to combat corruption in a country with a notorious reputation for it. Despite facing numerous challenges in her efforts to combat corruption in Nigeria, Okonjo-Iweala courageously recounted her experiences without shying away from naming those involved in relevant events, even in the face of personal danger and attacks. She emerged as a true leader in the fight against corruption.
My Transition Hours
In “My Transition Hours“, you can read firsthand about everything that occurred during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. The book provides a comprehensive account of the major events, although some individuals mentioned in the book have challenged certain claims. Nevertheless, it is an excellent read that provides a detailed and insightful perspective on how a sitting President in Nigeria lost an election.
